Timing Your Cap & Gown Session
Most seniors receive their cap and gown toward the end of the school year, making April through June the perfect time to schedule this special session before graduation festivities begin.
These sessions are designed to be simple, fun, and celebratory while capturing the excitement and pride that comes with finishing your senior year.
What to Wear Underneath
For a polished, timeless look in your cap and gown photos, I recommend:
Gentlemen
A dress shirt and tie in neutral or school colors photographs beautifully under the gown.
Ladies
A nice blouse paired with a simple necklace or something that won’t compete with the gown but still adds a touch of personality.
Prep Your Gown for the Spotlight
To avoid distracting fold lines in your images, be sure to steam your gown the night before. Here are a few easy options:
♦ Hang it in a steamy bathroom for 15–20 minutes
♦ Use a handheld steamer (avoid touching the fabric directly!)
♦ Or having it lightly pressed by a dry cleaner
And don’t forget your tassel. It may be small, but it makes a big difference in your portraits!
Add Personal Touches
Bring along any cords, pins, or medals you’ve earned during high school. These details help tell your story and make your session feel even more meaningful. We’ll be sure to capture a few shots that honor all your hard work and accomplishments.
